Wallpaper has been an important decorative element in America since the mid-1700's. As long as records or remnants of the original paper remains, the pattern can be reproduced in color and scale. When a house museum curator wants to duplicate the original installation, I use the same techniques employed by 18th and 19th century paperhangers. Sometimes conservators remove antique wallpapers from old homes and prepare them for re-installation. I prepare walls for these papers with the utmost care to ensure longevity for the wallpaper.
I use the same care and thoroughness when working with private clients who are creating period rooms.
